A list of necessary tests for any bariatric procedure
1. Complete blood count (CBC)
2. Urinalysis
3. Comprehensive Metabolic Panel (CMP), including:
• Glucose
• Calcium
• Albumin
• Total Protein
• Sodium
• Potassium
• CO2 (carbon dioxide, bicarbonate)
• Chloride
• BUN (blood urea nitrogen)
• Creatinine
• ALP (alkaline phosphatase)
• ALT (alanine amino transferase, also called SGPT)
• AST (aspartate amino transferase, also called SGOT)
• Bilirubin
4. Coagulation factors, including:
• Whole blood clotting time
• Prothrombin Time (PT)
5. Hepatitis B
6. Hepatitis C
7. HIV
8. ABO Grouping and Rh Typing
9. EKG
10. Upper GI endoscopy (or a stomach X-ray study)
11. Ultrasound study of the upper abdomen
12. X-ray of the chest
Remember that test results are only valid for 1 month (except chest x-ray, which remains so for 6 months). Also, if you have any serious chronic medical problems, please bring all related medical documentation.
